Steve Nicol says he’d sign 25-year-old for Liverpool instead of Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland

Liverpool have been preparing for months now for the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

It doesn’t make things any easier for the fans, players or the powers that be moving forward.

But at least everyone associated with Liverpool knows the situation and they can plan ahead for next season.

It’s fair to say that you probably can’t say the same with the forward areas, with Mohamed Salah’s future up in the air ahead of interest from Saudi Arabia.

Even if the Egypt superstar stays, some would argue that the Reds need to bulk up their attacking line, especially with Diogo Jota’s injury issues and a lack of reliability towards the chaos machine, Darwin Nunez.

Steve Nicol was asked to pick a player he would sign for Liverpool, instead of Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland and Real Madrid-bound, Kylian Mbappe.

Rather than picking a defensive player or someone in the middle of the park, he opted for a striking option – Victor Osimhen.

The Napoli superstar has been long linked with a move to the Premier League and Nicol added that he would be ‘fantastic’ for the next Liverpool manager, as he told ESPN.

The 25-year-old wrote his name in Napoli’s legendary books last season, alongside their greatest-ever, Diego Maradona, by helping the team win the Serie A title for the first team in three decades.

Life has been a lot more difficult for the team this season, but that still hasn’t stopped Osimhen from scoring 12 goals in 19 league matches and further enhancing his reputation in Europe.

“The fact that Salah is going to be going, whether it’s this year or next year,” said Nicol.

“Osimhen. I think Osimhen would be fantastic for Liverpool. The middle of the park, we have just signed Mac Allister and Szoboszlai. Endo has turned out to be incredible. He (Nunez) can start out wide.”

Liverpool’s summer transfer window

The most important appointment the club will make is bringing in the manager to take them on another trophy-winning journey.

Sporting Lisbon’s rising coach, Ruben Amorim is one of the most-talked-about names to replace Klopp.

You feel a call on a new manager needs to be made as soon as the season is finished, so that the individual can then concentrate on bringing in players.

From the summer transfer market to a new manager, this is going to be one of the most important summers of the club’s recent history and they have to get it right!

Or else, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have proven how it can go wrong for a team once that legendary coach departs.
