Olise starts & 'unbelievable' ace axed by Glasner: Predicted Crystal Palace XI v Liverpool - Our View

Crystal Palace return to action this afternoon with arguably the biggest test of the Premier League season, as Oliver Glasner leads his side to Anfield to battle Liverpool for three points.

Just like last week, it’s set to be a trialling afternoon for Crystal Palace as the Eagles face title challengers Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield.

Oliver Glasner watched his side put in a strong performance last weekend against Manchester City however, individual quality had the last laugh as the treble winners left Selhurst Park with a 4-2 victory.

It will be hoped that a similar level of performance can be replicated at Anfield this afternoon, with Jurgen Klopp’s side in desperate need of a win to maintain their title hopes.

Palace will be the underdogs, but will have the chance to cause an upset, giving Glasner a few things to think about when selecting his starting lineup to face the Reds, here’s our predicted XI…

Crystal Palace predicted lineup and injury news vs Liverpool

Dean Henderson will be the player to protect Palace’s goal at Anfield as Sam Johnstone continues to recover from injury.

In the build-up to the game, Glasner admitted his side will require a “great goalkeeper” to stand between the sticks against Liverpool, exaggerating Henderson’s need to be prepared for the test ahead.

Standing in front of the goalkeeper will be a rigid back three of Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen and Jefferson Lerma, seeing the Colombian step out of midfield again to cover for the injured Chris Richards, with Marc Guehi also still out of contention.

On the flanks, wing-backs Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell will have a critical role to play against the threat that Liverpool possess in the wide channels.

Munoz will be particularly aware of the directness of his national teammate Luis Diaz, who has been in searing form of late.

To challenge Liverpool’s midfield will likely be Will Hughes and the impressive Adam Wharton, who has been outstanding since arriving at Selhurst Park in January.

A boost on the injury front is that Jairo Riedewald could appear in some capacity after returning to training.

The most significant narrative surrounding squad selection will be the status of Michael Olise, who could be poised to make his first start under Glasner this afternoon.

The Frenchman had an impressive cameo against Manchester City last week and could replace Jordan Ayew to join Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze in the front line.

Previously lauded as “unbelievable” by his teammate Mateta, Ayew would be unlucky to lose his place in the starting lineup based on his performances this season however, the quality that Olise can offer is undeniable.
