Cambridge South Hockey Club’s two teams lose in last 32 of National Mixed Championships

Cambridge South Hockey Club’s season came to an end last Sunday with defeat for both of their mixed teams in the last 32 of National Mixed Championships.

The first team almost mounted a comeback during their 4-3 loss at Bromsgrove Sporting.

South found themselves two goals down within 12 minutes and four behind heading into the break.

However, while Izzy MacDonald-Parry’s goal 15 minutes after the restart appeared to be little more than a consolation, quickfire strikes courtesy of Hannah Snow and Jess Foord left South on the verge of drawing level.

And they were inches away from forcing the tie into penalties when Tim Winter’s shot cannoned back off the post.

Meanwhile, there was no such fightback from South’s second team, who suffered a 10-0 home loss at the hands of Dereham.

The visitors from Norfolk racked up five goals during the first half and the one-way traffic continued in the second half.

Despite the hefty defeat, South goalkeeper George Toynton was named Player of the Match for a string of saves.
