Leicester City top list of one unwanted Championship statistic that could cost Maresca in title race

A worrying statistic has emerged that doesn’t make good reading for Leicester City.

Enzo Maresca‘s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle on Friday evening just days after losing to Millwall.

It’s been a challenging period for The Foxes, who have now lost six of their last 10 Championship games, leaving automatic promotion in real jeopardy.

They’ve been let off the hook, though, with Leeds United and Ipswich Town both faltering of late themselves.

At one stage, it looked as though City were going to break Reading’s points record of 106, but that ambition is now unattainable.

So, where has it all gone wrong for Leicester?

The East Midlanders have been profligate in front of goal recently and a statistic from FotMob only amplifies that notion.

Leicester have missed a whopping 72 big chances this season, which is the most of any side in the Championship.

Leeds United and Middlesbrough follow in joint second with 67 whilst Southampton and Blackburn Rovers make up the top five on 60 and 58.

Against Plymouth, their wastefulness was certainly evident, as Patson Daka missed two golden opportunities.

The Zambia international seems to have lost his confidence as he’s started to snatch at chances, particularly when he has too much time to think about it.

In the first half on Friday, he tucked home a half-chance that didn’t allow for him to ponder on what to do. It was ruled out for outside, ultimately, but it shows that he’s an instinctive finisher.

Enzo Maresca should hand Kelechi Iheanacho a start

Kelechi Iheanacho hasn’t started a Championship game since the start of December, which has left fans baffled.

He started the season well and seemed to be a key player for Maresca but of late, he’s had to impress in limited minutes as a substitute.

The 27-year-old naturally likes to drop deep and link play, which could allow Stephy Mavididi and Abdul. Fatawu more space to run in behind.

Further, Iheanacho is typically a lot more clinical than Daka, so his inclusion may help to solve City’s wastefulness.

Leicester resume action this Saturday, as they welcome play-off hopefuls West Bromwich Albion to King Power Stadium.
