'We have to wait': Nuno delivers intriguing update on two Nottingham Forest star players

Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has delivered an update on two of his star players after the Reds drew with Wolves.

The Reds went into the City Ground contest needing a win – but were denied after two goals from Matheus Cunha who enjoyed a sound afternoon.

Forest scored throughMorgan Gibbs-White – who celebrated in front of the Wolves fans – and Danilo who notched another goal to his tally.

The Reds will need to be a little bit better against Everton next weekend and it looks like a game that will be tightly contested.

After the game yesterday, Espirito Santo delivered an update on two of his injured players and the hope will be that they are on the mend pretty soon.

Nuno Espirito Santo delivers update on two Forest stars

Well, it never rains it only pours at Forest when it comes to injuries. The Reds had to do without Anthony Elanga yesterday as he joined Taiwo Awoniyi on the treatment table.

The speed demon picked up a minor injury and it was a shame that Elanga wasn’t fit to play against Wolves. Utilising his speed could have been ideal against a side prone to the counter-attack.

After yesterday’s game, Espirito Santo was on hand to provide an update on the stricken duo and it could be positive news ahead of a tough trip to Everton next week.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “We have to wait and see. Individually they (Elanga and Awoniyi) are progressing but for today they were not available. Let’s wait for the next one.”

Elanga has 13 goal contributions during the 2023/24 campaign. He was a £15 million signing from Manchester United and he’s proved exceptional value for money.

Awoniyi has six goals to his name. He checked in for £18 million from Union Berlin but injuries have robbed him of a chance to kick on this season.

Forest need both players fit for next week

The Reds seriously missed Elanga yesterday. His pace could have caused chaos to Wolves but ultimately they couldn’t utilise the in-form player.

As for Awoniyi, his season has been blighted with a number of problems and it looked touch and go whether he’d play again this season.

However, this does at least sound like a positive update and hopefully, both players can be in the picture for Everton.

The duo are seriously important to Forest and their fortunes this season, with survival yet to be guaranteed.

Both Elanga and Awoniyi will be praying they can be fit for next week and the hope will be that the Forest squad can be bolstered by the duo.
