What Nuno did on day one at Nottingham Forest that left Harry Toffolo seriously impressed

Nuno Espirito Santo has been in the Nottingham Forest hot seat for almost four months. The Reds are still fighting tooth and nail against relegation and the Portuguese incumbent will hope to finish the job he was tasked with.

Espirito Santo arrived at Forest with a decent track record in England. He took Wolves to the Premier League and then led the club to back-to-back seventh-placed finishes – before going on to have a failed spell at Tottenham.

Still, in coaching terms, it felt like a bit of a coup for Forest to get Espirito Santo in once Steve Cooper was sacked. He hit the ground running too, defeating Newcastle and Manchester United in two of his first three games in charge.

It would seem as though the head coach is a popular figure with the players too. Forest star Harry Toffolo has been explaining what the head coach did on the first day that has helped bring the Reds closer together.

Harry Toffolo shares what Nuno Espirito Santo did on day one at Nottingham Forest

Well, it would appear that being well travelled has put Forest head coach Espirito Santo on the front foot with one aspect of modern-day management. Indeed, being able to speak a number of languages in this day and age is very helpful.

Forest have a number of different nationalities in the dressing room at present. Being able to relay information to the players easily might have proved tricky to Cooper previously during his tenure but now Espirito Santo has things covered.

Toffolo toldThe Athletic: “His ability to communicate was impressive. In one of the first meetings, he spoke in three or four languages in the space of minutes. He is a well-travelled character. It will help us to get the message on board quicker, as players, when you have somebody like him who can communicate easily with every player.”

Head coach knows he must complete tough task

The boss has been dealt a pretty tricky hand. Forest were left with a number of players absent during the African Cup of Nations and Espirito Santo has also had a four-point deduction to contend with at the City Ground.

Certain things have improved under Espirito Santo at Forest. There is far more organisation on the pitch in an attacking sense and the head coach is very clear in how he wants his team to play football on the front foot.

It’s interesting that Toffolo has made these comments. Right now, he’s not getting in the starting eleven at Forest, with Ola Aina currently occupying the left-back spot in Espirito Santo’s team.

Still, it’s clear that he’s fond of the head coach’s methods and hopefully, Forest can reap the rewards of a few wins between now and the end of the season.

If Espirito Santo can’t keep Forest in the Premier League, who knows what the future holds? The Reds may have to cut their cloth accordingly and it would remain to be seen whether the head coach fancies the Championship again.
