'Just unreal': Kelvin Wilson says Nottingham Forest have a defender who reminds him of Wes Morgan

Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham in their last Premier League match and now Kelvin Wilson has expressed how much he likes watching one Reds star.

It wasn’t to be for Forest in North London. The Reds huffed and puffed and via a Chris Wood goal, they did manage to go in at half-time level with the Champions League chasers.

Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro scored after the break, however, to ensure a comfortable win for Tottenham. Forest were left to rue another glorious chance for Wood but this time he fluffed his lines and hit the post.

Forest had an ace in their pack when they faced Tottenham last weekend, according to Wilson. He’s now been raving about one star man who is growing with each game he plays.

Kelvin Wilson delivers verdict on Forest star Murillo

The Brazilian defender has been a standout performer during the 2023/24 campaign. He’s taken the Premier League by storm and has made 30 appearances for Forest.

Wilson is a huge fan of Murillo and he thinks the Forest defender reminds him of a player that he featured alongside at the City Ground.

He told Team Talk on Notts TV: “We were talking about this off-air. The confidence the lad has got at 21-years-old is just unreal.

“You know, he’s scored an own goal and a lot of players might be down but he is someone who just keeps getting better with every game. It’s his confidence for me, he’s like an experienced pro.

“His one-on-one defending gets me. The best I played with was Wes Morgan in that sense, you just never got by him and he reminds me of him.”

Wilson has a point about the Forest star. At 21-years-old, the defender’s stock continues to rise. A study this week showcased that Murillo’s value is already over £30 million based on some statistics compiled by CIES.

Murillo could go straight to the top

In our opinion, the likelihood of Forest keeping Murillo is extremely slim. Four Premier League clubs are already considering moving for the defender – with clubs on the continent also keen.

Manchester City liked the look of Murillo before he came to Forest and considered a bid. However, the Reds will make a certain profit on the £10.4 million which they parted with for the Brazilian.

The challenge for Forest is finding a player to replace Murillo who boasts a similar set of skills when the time does come for him to go.

Forest have had some serious success in the South American market and perhaps that is an area of the world where the Reds feel they could unearth the next Murillo.
