'He played good': Nuno was very impressed with 21-year-old Nottingham Forest star vs Wolves

Nottingham Forest made a change to their starting line-up yesterday and it involved Giovanni Reyna coming in for his maiden start.

In truth, it’s been a long time coming for Reyna at Forest. He signed on loan from Dortmund in the January transfer window but has struggled for game time – and before yesterday hadn’t started.

Reyna is deemed a wonderkid and Forest have done well to get him on loan. However, Taylor Twellman did slam the player’s decision to sign for the Reds – citing that a relegation battle wasn’t ideal for his development.

Forest drew 2-2 with Wolves yesterday at the City Ground as they failed to get a big three points. Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo couldn’t help the Reds home during the entertaining clash.

After the game, Nuno Espirito Santo was quizzed on Reyna. He did pretty well during the outing and he will now hope for more starts in the final five games.

What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Giovanni Reyna after Forest draw

Well, it must have been a good moment for the 21-year-old to make his first start in the Premier League. He was largely comfortable and lined up on the right, with Anthony Elanga out injured.

It’s not anticipated that Elanga will be out for long. However, Reyna will hope to get a real chance to stay in the team now and build up some momentum for Forest.

Espirito Santo appeared quite impressed with his performance. He was asked about the decision to start the player following the 2-2 draw and there is more to come from him.

The head coach toldNottinghamshire Live: “He played good and he gave us good possession. He had good situations, good passing and finishing. Reyna is a good option for us and different to what we normally have. He did OK.”

Reyna has now staked his claim for a place

The player is very easy on the eye and yesterday he showed what he can do. Reyna was neat and tidy in possession and on another day he might have grabbed himself a goal.

Reyna just needs to stay calm and composed as he tries to get himself in the Forest team on a regular basis between now and the end of the season.

Forest will hope to have Elanga fit and available very quickly. Reyna is perhaps technically better than the Sweden star but his raw pace was missed yesterday.

Still, Reyna has now proved that he’s a more than capable backup to Elanga and there are no qualms should he need to step in again.
