'Some of his passes': Michael Owen left 'drooling' over how good £30m Arsenal player was v Aston Villa

Arsenal might have lost at home to Aston Villa today but Michael Owen still found time to praise one of the Gunners players.

Mikel Arteta saw his team implode after Liverpool had done the same as goals from Leon Bailey and then Ollie Watkins sealed a memorable and important win for Villa at The Emirates.

After Liverpool had lost against Palace, Arsenal had the ideal chance to put the Reds to bed in the title race.

However, it wasn’t to be, as they struggled to create chances and struggled to take control of the game like they have done so often this season.

Of course, Mikel Arteta may feel it is just a blip and given there are still just two points separating the three at the top, Arsenal are still in the race.

Arsenal midfielder shines despite Aston Villa defeat

Indeed, it wasn’t all doom and gloom either for Arsenal on the day.

A couple of their players at least looked close to being able to influence the game.

One of those was captain and star midfielder, Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian tried his best in the first half in particular to carve open Villa and watching on for Premier League Productions, Michael Owen lauded Odegaard’s passing.

“We’ve been drooling over some of his passes. Great vision, great pace on the passes. He knows how to find space,” Owen said.

Martin Odegaard will want more from his teammates

This was one of those days not only for Arsenal but in the Premier League in general.

Every single result went the way most wouldn’t have expected and it leaves the title race wide open now, with Man City probably thinking they’ve one hand on the trophy.

For £30m man Martin Odegaard, it wasn’t for a lack of effort on his part. He was taken off near the end as Arsenal chased the game but he showed he is the man for the Gunners still.

The skipper will now need to rally the troops really and get them ready for Bayern Munich this week.
