Brooklyn man shot dead in Essex County, cops say

A fatal shooting in Irvington took the life of a Brooklyn, New York, man Sunday morning, authorities said.

Irvington police responded to various reports of a man who was shot at a residence on Melville Place at about 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find a wounded Oliver A. Francis, 61. He died at a local hospital at about 3:15 a.m, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

No other information about the crime was made public.

The shooting is under investigation by the prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s tip line at 877- 847-7432.
