Report: £60m Chelsea player is happy at Stamford Bridge, but club now view him as expendable

Chelsea could get rid of one player this summer despite him being happy at the club.

As it often is, it is going to be another busy transfer window at Stamford Bridge when the market reopens.

Chelsea will be expected to bring in players after a hugely disappointing season, with the Blues just about in the top 10 right now.

However, because of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, there are likely to be exits as well.

There could be departures in the defensive department, for example.

Chelsea defender now seen as expendable

As of now, Mauricio Pochettino has three players in his squad who can all play at left-back.

Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill have all started on the left side of Chelsea’s defence this season.

However, one name from that trio could be set to depart west London in the summer.

According to football.london, while Cucurella is happy at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea view the 25-year-old, who they paid around £60m for, as expendable.

It means that Cucurella could be one player who Chelsea decide to get rid of at the end of the season. They have already reportedly offered him to Real Madrid.

Is Marc Cucurella the left-back Chelsea should get rid of this summer?

Colwill is not naturally a left-back, while Cucurella has not done as much at Chelsea as Chilwell has, so the Spaniard should be the man that the club let go if they do want to have a bit of a revamp in that area of the pitch.

That being said, the idea of selling Chilwell instead should also not be totally dismissed.

Chelsea fans will always be grateful for the role he played in the club’s 2021 Champions League triumph, but the 27-year-old keeps on getting injured.

If Chelsea received a good offer for Chilwell, at this point it is surely something that they would have to consider.
