Edu Gaspar now reacts after Granit Xhaka wins the league with Bayer Leverkusen

Edu Gaspar and Emiliano Martinez have both reacted after former Arsenal man Granit Xhaka won the Bundesliga over the weekend.

It was a miserable weekend for Arsenal as they failed to capitalise on Liverpool’s shock home defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Gunners fell to a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium and missed out on the opportunity to regain their spot at the top of the Premier League.

Manchester City now lead the way following a 5-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday.

While Sunday’s action dented Arsenal’s title hopes, their former midfielder Granit Xhaka secured a historic title with Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s men made easy work of a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance of the German top flight.

Xhaka has been key to Leverkusen’s success, with recent suggestions the midfielder has taken his game to another level in Germany.

Xhaka was a key man under Arteta last season and it’s fair to say his absence has been felt in the middle of the park at times.

Edu is yet to sign a like-for-like replacement for the Switzerland star although Declan Rice has performed well in a more advanced role of late.

Off the back of an impressive campaign at Arsenal last time out, Xhaka completed a £21.4 million switch to Leverkusen last summer.

The 31-year-old has been a revelation in the middle of the park under Alonso, racking up 41 appearances in all competitions.

He’s netted twice and provided one assist in the process, with Leverkusen yet to taste defeat this season.

Following his exit from Arsenal, it’s fair to say that Xhaka had transformed opinion of him after some difficult moments in north London.

Arsenal supporters are likely to be delighted for the midfielder and will be hoping their side repeats the trick in England.
