'We are committed': Matz Sels highlights one area Nottingham Forest are trying to improve

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday and Matz Sels was once again in action for the Reds.

The Belgian goalkeeper was signed by Forest in the January transfer window and has proved an upgrade on Matt Turner.

Since signing for Forest, Sels has forced his way into the Belgium team and earned praise during the last international break.

The 32-year-old is not going to be a long-term solution for Forest and a younger option between the posts could be sought in the summer.

However, the stopper is a safe pair of hands and he’s showcased some very decent form between the posts for Forest.

After Saturday’s draw with Wolves, it was Sels who faced the media and he’s made a claim that some Forest fans might find bizarre.

What Matz Sels thinks Forest need to improve on

Well, this will come as a bit of a surprise to Forest supporters – but apparently, the club are working tirelessly on set pieces.

The reason that claim is so remarkable is that Forest have now conceded 22 times from dead-ball situations this season.

Sels, however, believes that it’s not through a lack of trying or being underprepared and set pieces are something that is being worked on.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “A couple of days before matches we are working on both defensive and offensive set-pieces.

“It’s been every week that I’ve been here. We are committed to it.

“We work all the time on it and we’ve changed the system a few times but we keep going and conceding goals like this.

“It’s everybody. It’s not one guy. We need to be sharper before corners. It’s something everyone needs to do better.”

Forest should have signed Belgian in the summer

The Reds have had a nightmare with goalkeepers this season.

Turner has made high-profile errors, whilst Odysseas Vlachodimos also flattered to deceive when he was called upon.

Sels would cost less than the other two goalkeepers did and it’s likely that Forest would have a few more points had he been around all season.

The player cost just £5 million from Strasbourg and he already looks like a steal given that price tag.

Sels is probably deserving of more clean sheets for his performances at Forest and hopefully, he can keep a couple between now and the end of the season.

The goalkeeper perhaps didn’t cover himself in glory for Wolves’ second goal at the weekend but more often than not he’s come up trumps for Forest.
