'His feet are so quick': Alan Shearer seriously impressed with 'really clever' £100m player who Arsenal want

Alan Shearer has now been heavily praising a player who has often been linked with a move to Arsenal this coming summer.

Mikel Arteta will have probably been analysing Arsenal’s damaging defeat to Aston Villa long into yesterday evening.

The Gunners were outperformed by Unai Emery’s side, who completed a league double against their manager’s old team.

Arsenal started the game superbly, looking like a side determined to make the most of Liverpool’s malaise earlier in the day, rather than repeat it.

However, Arsenal couldn’t quite finish their chances, with the best of them falling to both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus.

Along with Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Arsenal boss decided to put all three into his line up, a decision that perhaps didn’t pay dividends.

The home side looked rushed in front of goal, and lacked a clinical edge.

And with the summer transfer window in mind, perhaps that does suggest that Mikel Arteta would be best off signing a striker who can make the difference.

Alan Shearer praises 17-goal Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after Arsenal links

With that in mind, Alexander Isak is continually linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, a player who could cost up to £100m.

But given Newcastle’s financial position right now, and their reported need to potentially sell a star player, there could be an opportunity for Arsenal.

And that being said, Alan Shearer has been praising Arsenal-linked Isak on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast.

The Sweden international scored twice against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, a pretty effective way to get noticed by the Arsenal faithful.

Gary Lineker initially praised the striker, but admitted he did still have one small concern.

Lineker said: “17 goals in 24 Premier League appearances. I mean the only question mark against him is that he has missed a few games.”

Shearer replied: “If you get him out on the pitch, and you have him fit, he is as good as there is in the Premier League. No doubt about that.

“His feet are so quick, he’s a really good finisher, he’s as quick as there is in a race. He’s a really, really clever footballer.”

Is signing Alexander Isak the solution for Arsenal this summer?

It’s important to not go overboard in terms of reaction to yesterday’s defeat, the first in the league for Arsenal in this calendar year.

But the thirst for a new goalscorer at the club is more born out of the opportunity Arsenal fans are seeing.

Kai Havertz is doing a superb job as a false nine at times, but he needs a striker who can dovetail with him and score the bulk of the goals.

That’s not to suggest that Gabriel Jesus should leave, far from it – but would Alexander Isak make Arsenal a better team?

The honest answer is yes, and although Alan Shearer would be gutted to see Newcastle’s star man leave for a club like Arsenal, he would probably reluctantly agree that he’s ready for that level.

All that being said, Mikel Arteta completely disagreed with something Ollie Watkins said after yesterday’s game.
