Sean Dyche offers injury update on Jarrad Branthwaite after Everton v Chelsea

For Everton last night, simply nothing went right.

They played without purpose or intelligence and allowed Chelsea to run riot in their own backyard.

It was a match where the Toffees certainly could have snatched something from before kick-off, but that hope was swiftly destroyed by a shambolic display.

Not only was the night filled with many poor personal performances, but injuries also struck down three squad members too.

We now await a clear update on the scale of those setbacks.

Sean Dyche provides important injury update

Speaking immediately after Everton’s 6-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge, Sean Dyche was unsurprisingly downbeat about what had been a truly terrible night for his side.

They looked completely devoid of quality and a plan, which fused into the worst league defeat the club has suffered in 19 years.

And to make matters even worse, the manager was forced to oversee a string of injuries too, as his players dropped like flies.

First Seamus Coleman had to be withdrawn as part of a half-time triple substitution, before true disaster struck when Jarrad Branthwaite was later substituted.

Dyche has now sought to offer an injury update: ‘Jarrad, we hope, is minor, but we have to wait and see. Shay (Coleman) has pulled his groin, we don’t know yet and Patto’s looks a bit more serious. A hamstring injury, we are going to have to wait and see – let it settle tomorrow.’

Nathan Patterson was also forced off in added time.

Everton need Jarrad Branthwaite

As the season has gone on, Everton’s reliance on the 21-year-old Branthwaite has only grown.

After all, he provides the sole injection of speed within Dyche’s backline, helping out an ageing James Tarkowski, who has struggled since the turn of the year, and often covering in behind the likes of Vitaliy Mykolenko and even Seamus Coleman at times too.

His physical profile is unlike anything else at the club, and without him, there is a gaping vacancy that nobody else can really fill.

There have arguably been few other points of positivity throughout this campaign, and such has been his blistering form, plenty of suitors have gathered to potentially secure his services this summer.

If they are to endure these final few Premier League games without him, Everton’s chances of securing survival will drop dramatically.

Just like Dyche, we all hope that this minor issue can be solved before this weekend’s crunch relegation clash with Nottingham Forest.
