'Totally different': Eddie Howe thinks 21-year-old will start scoring goals for Newcastle very soon

Newcastle United have shared the goals around this season, and Eddie Howe does not think it will be long before another one of his players finds the net.

While Alexander Isak is out in front as Newcastle United’s top scorer with 21 goals, there are 19 other players who have scored for the Magpies this season.

Anthony Gordon is the only other Toon player to hit double figures, having found the net on 11 occasions. He is closely followed by Callum Wilson, who would have taken his tally beyond eight had it not been for injury.

Elsewhere, Dan Burn has got four goals in all competitions, which is impressive for a defender who has never been prolific, while we also saw Lewis Miley net his first ever Newcastle United goal in front of the Gallowgate.

And, of course, there was that Matt Ritchie ‘screamer’ against Bournemouth back in February.

Newcastle United midfielder is yet to score his first goal

20 different players have scored for Newcastle United this season, with Eddie Howe’s side rarely struggling to find the net.

But one player who is yet to score is Elliot Anderson. In fact, he is yet to score a competitive goal for the Magpies.

He thought he had netted his first last season away to Nottingham Forest, but it was cruelly chalked off by VAR.

Anderson is still waiting to experience his first ever senior goal, and manager Eddie Howe does not believe it is too far away.

Eddie Howe believes Elliot Anderson will be a scorer for Newcastle

Howe has spoke to the Chronicle about Anderson’s attacking output, and he envisions a lot of goals and assists from the 21-year-old in the future.

“What he can bring is a totally different thing technically,” he said.

“His delivery around the box, I think we’ll see that steadily improve through time. I think he will be a goalscorer or a goal creator.

“We’ve seen that through training now for a long period of time. I can’t speak highly enough of how he’s come back from his injury. I think he’s in a really good place.”

Anderson can become a game-changer for Newcastle

Anderson has played brilliantly since recovering from a back injury. He was particularly outstanding on Saturday against Tottenham, where he was asked to operate as a centre-midfielder and a left wing-back.

He did it expertly, and his intensity off the ball really helped set the tone on what was a special day for Newcastle United.

The local lad almost found the net too, but his effort from a tight angle was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Anderson has all the tools to be a scorer and creator for Newcastle. It is clear in the way he plays. He is brave and ambitious on the ball, and it is only a matter of time before he becomes a difference maker in the final third.
