'I doubt it': Taylor Twellman says Lionel Messi is doing something we'll never see again in MLS

Taylor Twellman has said Lionel Messi is doing something with Inter Miami that might never be seen again in MLS.

The Argentine superstar has taken soccer in America to new heights after signing for Inter Miami last summer, with Messi and the Herons now becoming the hottest ticket in time and one of the biggest franchises in the United States.

Now a worldwide phenomenon, Inter Miami are one of the most followed sides in the entire sport, with Messi jerseys now commonplace across the globe as the reigning Ballon d’Or winner looks to take the Florida giants to new heights in the next few seasons.

And for MLS legend Twellman, Messi is doing something we might never see again in the division.

MLS might never have a player as big as Inter Miami’s Messi

Speaking on his TikTok channel, the former USA international made the claim that there might not be another player in MLS’s upcoming history that will have the same draw as Messi, with the league already having some huge names over the years.

Twellman said: “I was expecting a pro-Messi crowd. It was a pro-Kansas City crowd, and then some. But how do you not marvel at what Messi does on and off the field?

“People forget that in 2008, Sporting Kansas City played their last competitive game in that building against the LA Galaxy, where Inter Miami owner David Beckham was in town and they only drew 26,000. Messi shows up, they sell out in less than a week.

“But then it’s the ability to rise to the occasion every single time and give the people want they want, the assists, the goal, the win. We take it for granted what he does and what it all means. And when it’s all said and done, will we ever see the likes of this again? I doubt it.”

Messi’s legacy will lead to superstars moving to America

It would be quite something if soccer ever sees a player as brilliant as Messi ever again, with the Argentine simply the greatest to play the game and has since become an inspiration to millions across the world.

And whilst MLS might never have a player as good as Messi, the 36-year-old’s building legacy in America will lead to superstar players making the move to the United States, where the game is only growing bigger.

Indeed, some huge names are being teased with a move to MLS in the next 12 months or so, and Messi’s reputation and achievements with Inter Miami will help this movement in a big way if the league can also accommodate for change.
