Cop released from hospital. Woman who allegedly shot him arrested.

A shooter who allegedly wounded a police officer Monday at a Montclair home has been identified as a 39-year-old township woman, investigators announced Tuesday.

Maryann Swain, of Montclair, who is still in the hospital after being shot by another officer, was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and weapons-related offenses, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers were called to a home on Forest Street shortly after 1 p.m. and were met with gunfire, the office said.

“I heard three shots. Boom! Boom! Boom!,” Sean Ruff, 62, who lives across the street, told NJ Advance Media.

One of the officers, identified Tuesday as 33-year-old Michael J. Medrano, was struck in the shoulder area as one of his fellow officers returned fire on Swain, the office said.

Medrano and Swain were transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries, authorities said.

Medrano has been released from the hospital, authorities said.

Once Swain is released from the hospital, she will be held in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court.
