Mauricio Pochettino is now starting to lose trust in £35m Chelsea man, he proved it on Monday - opinion

Chelsea were able to beat Everton convincingly on Monday, putting six past Sean Dyche’s men.

Yet there are still perhaps a couple of negative talking points you can actually take away from the match.

One is obviously the penalty mess involving Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke.

It left Mauricio Pochettino fuming, and the Argentine has now warned the team he will not accept a repeat of that incident happening.

There was also a sign of Pochettino losing a bit of faith in one of his players, which is not good given that he is a recent signing.

Who does Mauricio Pochettino trust?

Cole Palmer, that is for sure. He is easily Chelsea‘s star man right now and has not missed any of the nine penalties that he has taken in the Premier League this season.

At this moment in time, you would probably have to say Trevoh Chalobah as well.

Since he has come back from injury, Pochettino has really utilised the central defender, starting him in the Blues’ last two Premier League games.

You can also say the same thing about Thiago Silva. Despite having dropped the Brazilian not too long ago, he now finds himself back in the starting XI.

Chelsea have had injuries in central defence, but Benoit Badiashile was available for the Everton game but Silva was still picked ahead of him. It shows that Pochettino still has a lot of faith in Silva, or perhaps that he is losing trust in Badiashile.

Silva turns 40 this year and is set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires, while Chalobah could also follow him out of the Stamford Bridge exit door.

It has been claimed that the club have already informed Chalobah of their plans to sell him in the summer.

Despite all of the above, though, Badiashile was still overlooked for the Everton match.

The Frenchman was not great when he came on in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield United prior to the win against the Toffees, with talkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs critical of his jumping as he failed to deal with a couple of aerial balls.

Badiashile, who cost Chelsea £35m when he joined from AS Monaco last year, started on the bench that day as he did on Monday. It is clear that Pochettino does not seem him as a reliable defender right now.
