'Absolutely': Sky Sports journalist claims Wolves could now sell 'incredible' player for cut-price fee

Wolves have just six games to play in the 2023/24 season before the circus of the summer transfer window begins, with journalist Johnny Phillips outlining one area for concern for Fosun and Gary O’Neil.

Gary O’Neil will lean on Fosun to produce the funds he needs to replenish his shortened squad, as Wolves brace to enter the summer transfer window.

Given the mess that the manager walked into at Molineux, this summer should be a lot calmer for the Old Gold, who will still be wary of financial boundaries but won’t be burdened by the restrictions of the 2023 window.

That being said, it still looks likely that Wolves will be unable to retain all of their squad that have impressed under O’Neil, with profit still needing to be made and rumours already beginning to surface.

Key stars such as Max Kilman, Joao Gomes and Pedro Neto have had their futures speculated ahead of the summer, three players that could source great profit however, one ace’s valuation is thought to have dropped.

Johnny Phillips thinks Wolves would accept a cut-price for Pedro Neto

Back in March, it was relayed by journalist Ben Jacobs that Wolves could demand a fee as high as £80m for Neto, who had a searing start to the season.

Unfortunately, it’s been a case of history repeating itself for the Portugal international, who has been tormented by injury once again, which Sky Sports journalist Johnny Phillips believes has had a detrimental impact on his price tag.

Speaking on the Talking Wolves podcast, Phillips shared his opinion on whether Wolves would accept a bid in the region of £40m for the winger.

“I think they’d take it because they’ve already proved that they can play without him. It’s great when he’s there but he’s been out for long spells and Wolves have found a way of winning matches without him on the pitch.

“Obviously, it’s much better to have him but I think they would take £40m absolutely if it was offered.”

Phillips added his belief that the ability to ask for a high fee for Neto has now expired due to his recurring injury woes.

“It’s just a shame when it was double that figure that was being talked about when was at his peak and I just wonder if that number’s gone now forever and realistically, you would only get as much as £40m for him.”

Wolves have had a difficult time getting the best out of Pedro Neto

At the start of this season, it looked as though O’Neil had finally got Neto to hit his full potential at Wolves, as he contributed to eight goals in his opening 10 Premier League apperances, seeing him lauded as “incredible” by the boss.

The good times quickly came crashing down to reality, as the 24-year-old was once again struck down with an injury, missing nine league games due to a hamstring issue.

On returning, the Portugal whiz showed his quality once more, recording another three goal contributions in eight appearances, before getting injured again, another hamstring injury that has seen him out of action since last month.

It’s damning for Wolves to have a player as high quality as Neto that is unable to complete a full season due to being injury prone.

The winger hasn’t been able to acquire 20 apperances in his previous three Premier League seasons at Molineux, something that will certainly deter clubs from paying a huge sum to sign him.

It’s a difficult scenario for Wolves who despite not wanting to sell Neto for a lower fee, may not get another opportunity to receive a lavish offer for the Portuguese forward if his injury concerns resurface next season.
