'He is an incredible footballer': Shakhtar Donetsk star says 23-year-old Man City player is actually his idol

Giorgi Sudakov has revealed that one of his Manchester City players is his role model.

The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, like several other 21-year-old players like him would naturally look up to City’s superstars.

Growing up, the Ukrainian would have witnessed the Sky Blues’ domination of English football.

Whether it be under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini or Pep Guardiola, Giorgi Sudakov has seen Manchester City play beautiful football while winning trophies.

During the English giants’ ascent over the years, they have also had players of such a standard that fans and players must idolise.

Kevin De Bruyne is certainly an example, as beyond all his success, he is the kind of player that makes aspiring footballers dream.

Giorgi Sudakov says 23-year-old Manchester City player is his idol

The way De Bruyne strikes a ball and passes is a thing of beauty and the way the Belgian does it can only be associated with him.

Similarly, Erling Haaland would naturally be an idol to millions around the world due to performing the most glamorous task in football: scoring goals.

And that too at a rate not many players of his age have in the past, which makes Haaland a global superstar and the kind of striker even aspiring players would wish to replicate.

Young players who aim to make a name for themselves would be inspired to see how fearless Haaland has seemed in chasing greatness from day one.

De Bruyne and Haaland certainly fit into the category of players many would look up to.

But they are not the only two players who that applies to at the Etihad Stadium.

As Giorgi Sudakov named Phil Foden as his idol.

“Now [my idol] is Phil Foden”, Giorgi Sudakov told journalist Ben Jacobs for CaughtOffside about Phil Foden.

“I really like the way he plays. He is an incredible footballer. I also like Luka Modric very much, and I can highlight a third player, Andres Iniesta.”

Understandable why Giorgi Sudakov looks up to Phil Foden

Being an attacking midfielder himself, one can completely understand why Giorgi Sudakov is a fan of Phil Foden.

For any young number 10 in the game especially, the £225,000-a-week man should be a reference point.

Giorgi Sudakov would be hoping to become as complete an attacking midfielder as Phil Foden is.

That too while playing at the highest level, as Foden can score and assist goals while also managing the tempo he plays at mid-game, which is a skill young midfielders tend not to have initially.

If Giorgi Sudakov can develop into even half the player Phil Foden is by the time he turns 23 as well, Ukrainian football would have a diamond on their hands.
