Fabrizio Romano shares ‘important’ Tottenham transfer claim as Ange Postecoglou eyes upgrade

Tottenham Hotspur are now planning to make an important addition to their squad over the summer with Ange Postecoglou eyeing an upgrade.

Although the 2023/24 campaign has been a big improvement on what Tottenham fans saw under Antonio Conte, there still has been some poor moments.

Saturday was certainly one of those with Newcastle United unleashing another heavy defeat on Ange Postecoglou‘s side.

It was a game where Spurs had a big opportunity to open a provisional gap on Aston Villa but they failed to take their opportunity.

Instead, it was Unai Emery’s side who were able to pull three points clear in fourth place.

But these are just some of the hurdles which are to be expected in a long-term rebuild and it has to be remembered that Spurs are less than a year into it.

The Australian has had two transfer windows as the Spurs boss and the summer will offer him an opportunity to fine tune his squad.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano is expecting this to be an important window for Tottenham with Daniel Levy having already sanctioned some significant signings since Postecoglou’s appointment.

Fabrizio Romano expects Spurs to make some important additions

Under the 58-year-old, Tottenham have brought in some seriously impressive signings with James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario being just some of them.

However, there are still some areas of the squad which still need some further additions made over the coming months.

Postecoglou has already spoken about his expectation for the club to add at centre-back despite the signing of Radu Dragusin in the January window.

But another area which is looking in desperate need of some quality is at number six with Yves Bissouma really struggling to find his best form.

The Mali international was one of three Spurs players who were really criticised for their performances on the weekend against Newcastle.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer expert has insisted this summer will be a busy one for Tottenham.

Not only do the club have a number of players they are in desperate need to sell, but there is also the expectation for Postecoglou to see his squad bolstered.

“I think it will be an important summer for Tottenham in terms of midfield. And then [there will be] an offensive player, at least one offensive player,” said Romano.

“We will see if it’s going to be more a kind of winger or more a kind of number nine. But they are exploring the offensive players market and I think they will do something also in that position.

“So I think it will be a busy summer at Tottenham.”

No excuses can be made by Daniel Levy this summer

Last summer saw Spurs undergo a lot of changes and a fair few players did come through the doors at Hotspur Way.

However, it has to be remembered that Harry Kane did depart and Spurs have not directly replaced him with a new striker.

And since last summer, the club have announced record revenue levels in the latest financial report ending the year 30 June, 2023.

Levy has also greenlit the decision to increase the season ticket prices for next term which has not gone down well at all with the fans.

Clearly, there are no financial reasons why Spurs cannot adequately back Postecoglou this summer and there are still some signs, on the pitch, that the squad needs improving.
