‘Big talent’ in Tottenham’s U21s side has switched positions, he instantly scored from there last night

Tottenham Hotspur have now experimented with the position of one of their U21 talents and it has paid off.

The Tottenham U21s were in action again on Monday night in the Premier League 2 as they returned to their spot at the top of the table.

It was a convincing win for Wayne Burnett’s side who return to the top spot on goal difference ahead of West Ham – albeit with two games still in hand.

Although there may have been some concerns of a potential Wolves comeback inside the first half, it turned out to be a straightforward three points.

Ange Postecoglou has a lot of options to select from in this U21s side if he feels there is an opportunity for some youngsters to be promoted to the first team.

And one of the emerging talents in Burnett’s side was played in a new position last night which even produced a goal for him.

Opportunities have been hard to come by for the academy players in Postecoglou’s XI, however, there may be a few names now really making a case for themselves.

Tottenham youngster shines after trying out new position

The Spurs U21s side has been a real shining light for the club this season as they position themselves in a great position to win the league.

However, perhaps a lot of that success has derived from a lack of opportunities for their star players.

And that has been as a result of the competition for places in Postecoglou’s first team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A number of the U21s have trained with the first team at Hotspur Way this season, but only a select few have broken through into the matchday squad.

One player who really shone on Monday night was midfielder Rio Kyerematen who featured at full-back against Wolves.

He was even able to get his name on the scoresheet as well as providing an assist as he played the full 90 minutes in defence.

Tottenham podcaster Chris Miller has previously hailed Kyerematen as a ‘big talent‘ and this type of versatility is something which will surely excite Postecoglou.

Postecoglou may have to offload some prospects in the summer

With Richarlison out through injury, Tottenham are looking pretty light up top without a real focal figure through the middle.

Heung-min Son has been in fine form this season, but recently the South Korean has not quite been at his absolute best.

And still, there has been no opportunity for any of the youth players to show what they could potentially do in the side.

Even Dane Scarlett has been unable to earn himself an opportunity despite Tottenham’s struggles in attack.

Given the likes of Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley have impressed so much this season, they may be forced to leave on loan if they are hoping for experience in the men’s game next season.
