English Midfielder says player Liverpool sold for £35m was actually even better than Franck Ribery

Liverpool have had some incredible attacking talent in recent years.

The Reds have five incredible attackers on their books right now, but they’ve also had to say goodbye to some amazing forwards in recent years such as Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi.

However, perhaps the best attacking player Liverpool have let go in recent years is Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese star was incredible for the Reds. He worked his socks off every time he pulled on a red shirt, while he scored important goals time after time.

Interestingly, a fresh claim has now been made about Mane by Coventry midfielder, Ben Sheaf ahead of Coventry’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final.

Sadio Mane better than Franck Ribery

Speaking on The FA Cup’s official TikTok page, Sheaf took part in a challenge where he ranked a number of legendary footballer, and he put Mane ahead of Franck Ribery.

“Sadio Mane? Oh number three. Ribery? Is Ribery better than Mane? Let’s go with number four,” Sheaf said.

Sadio Mane vs Franck Ribery

Now, this is a very interesting comparison between two wildly different players.

Mane was all about hard work, effort and clinical finishing, while Ribery was a much more aloof player who had bundles of skill and dribbling ability rather than being ultra-direct like Mane was.

So, who was the better player? Well, Bayern Munich fans would probably say Ribery after Mane’s poor season at the Allianz Arena last term, but Liverpool fans know just how good Mane was before his £35m move.

Mane was more prolific than Ribery, that’s for sure, but Ribery was the more technical of the two players.

Interestingly, both men formed incredible partnerships with two very similar players down their opposite flank in the shapes of Mohamed Salah and Arjen Robben respectively, and, in our view, Mane was a better team player than Ribery in terms of helping his partner, so perhaps that gives him the edge in this debate.

Regardless of who you prefer, it has to be said that these are two of the all-time greats.
