Ally McCoist dodges Alan Brazil’s Celtic question as the title race hots up

The title race has created a pressure cooker environment in Scotland that Celtic and Rangers need to live with this season.

It’s par for the course and Brendan Rodgers has expertly handled it as pundits comment on how he turned the screw on Rangers with his post-match Celtic comments in last weekend’s win over St Mirren.

Rodgers said that this is the part of the season where Celtic ‘come alive‘ and the following day the Ibrox club lost at Ross County.

This now means that Rangers must beat Celtic at Parkhead in the Glasgow Derby on the 14th of May or rely on favours from other teams to help secure the title.

Ally McCoist won’t admit to supporting Celtic if Rangers depended on it

It was this scenario that led to a light-hearted conversation on talkSPORT between Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist where the Celtic supporting Brazil asked McCoist if he could back the Hoops in a title situation that would benefit Rangers.

Brazil: “Ally, if Celtic needed to beat another Scottish team to seal the title for Rangers, would you be supporting Celtic?”

Feigning misunderstanding, Brazil had to repeat the question for McCoist before the former Rangers hero replied:

McCoist: “We’re having a problem with the line here in Germany. I don’t know what’s happened.”

It was a good stitch-up by Brazil in fairness and it was taken in good humour by his co-presenter at a time when so much is riding on a game tonight that could break Rangers’ season.

The Ibrox clubheads to Dundee knowing that they cannot afford to drop any more points heading into the top-six split.

With the Glasgow Derby looming, the pressure is on Philippe Clement and Rangers to keep within touching distance of Celtic before their Scottish Cup clash with Hearts on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers can sit back and enjoy a couple of days free from the title race and plot Aberdeen’s downfall at Hampden on Sunday.
