Report: Chelsea actually knew 22-year-old wouldn't solve their problems when they signed him

The last summer transfer window was another huge one for Chelsea.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital once again spent big and brought in multiple players.

The likes of Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi all joined Chelsea during that transfer window, for example.

Their recruitment in the summer of 2023, though, has not really improved them that much, or at least in terms of league position.

The Blues are currently ninth in the table after finishing in 12th last season. However, they are just three points behind sixth.

Chelsea knew 22-year-old signing was never the answer

A lot of the Blues’ signings in the previous summer were quite young, including Caicedo and Jackson.

Both players are 22 and have been important members of Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad this season.

However, according to football.london, Chelsea never viewed the latter as the answer to their goalscoring problems and wanted to ease him into life at Stamford Bridge.

That never happened, though, with Jackson quickly becoming the team’s first-choice striker and going on to make 36 appearances in all competitions.

How do Chelsea plan to add more goals to their team?

Jackson has not done terribly in front of goal, netting 13 times across the 36 games he has played.

However, going forward, Chelsea will want more than that as they try to reach the elite level again, while the club will also want to take some pressure off an individual who is still quite young.

It could see them sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who continues to be linked with a move to west London.

Osimhen has a very good goalscoring record at Napoli, netting 31 times for the Italian outfit last season.

Still just 25, if he does goes on to join Chelsea this summer and can bring his Napoli form with him and maintain it, the Nigerian could go on to become one of the club’s all-time top goalscorers. He is a player Chelsea fans will certainly be keeping an eye on going into the next transfer window.
