Steven Pressley assesses the 'momentum' Celtic now have in title race with Rangers

Celtic know the path they need to walk down in order to claim Scottish Premiership title glory come May under Brendan Rodgers.

With the post-split fixtures now announced, the Bhoys travel to Dundee first, followed by back-to-back home clashes against Heart of Midlothian and Rangers on May 4th and May 11th, respectively.

Kilmarnock will lay in wait on May 15th at Rugby Park, a destination where Celtic have already been beaten twice this campaign on an artificial surface.

Then, we will head back to Parkhead on May 15th against St Mirren, on a day when, if we are crowned champions, the Bhoys will hopefully be able to recreate the festivities of the last two years on the final match of the season.

Nevertheless, Rodgers, his playing staff, and supporters up and down the country will hastily silence any talk of that. They have enough experience over the years to know how fraught with unpredictability a title race can be.

One game at a time has to be the mantra at Parkhead, ensuring no stone is left unturned in search of a third domestic crown in succession.

Scottish Cup semi-final action is also on the horizon, and we can book our place in the final if we can defeat Aberdeen on Saturday, something that should stir motivation at Lennoxtown.

Steven Pressley says Celtic have the momentum in title race

Former Celtic man Steven Pressley played for both sides of the Glasgow divide and has a unique perspective on how to determine who has the momentum at a crucial stage in the season.

Despite tipping our rivals to win the Scottish Premiership, the ex-Scotland international, who now works for Brentford as their Head of Individual Development, has indicated the Bhoys are now in the box seat.

Assessing Celtic’s new-found ‘momentum’, he stated [Cited via Glasgow World]: “Well, I said probably about six weeks ago that Rangers would definitely win the title, but what do I know.

“The truth is I made the statement on what I believed at the time, but there is always a spanner in the works, and last weekend proved that.

“It makes for a really intriguing last six weeks. The interesting aspect for Rangers now is it’s still in their own hands as if they win the Old Firm game, but again, they are not in a position where they can drop more points.

“Celtic probably can afford one more slip as long as they take care of the Old Firm. The momentum has swung back to Celtic. It’s going to be really interesting.”

Celtic will feel they have the momentum, though they won’t be getting too carried away amid the reality that five tough league matches lay in wait.

Every single game will have a cup-final feel attached, and nothing but maximum points will do for an expectant Celtic support.
