Joe Cole now says whether Chelsea star Cole Palmer should win Player of the Year

Former Chelsea winger Joe Cole has been discussing the form of Cole Palmer.

Cole Palmer has been really bright for Chelsea this season, but especially of late.

Against Everton, the attacker scored four goals to take his tally in the Premier League to 20, making him the joint-top scorer alongside former Manchester City team-mate Erling Haaland.

Palmer has also recorded nine assists in the top flight. Across all competitions, the 21-year-old has come up with 36 goal contributions since joining Chelsea from City last summer.

It is no wonder, then, that he is starting to come into the Player of the Year debate. Chris Sutton recently said he should be in contention with Rodri and Declan Rice for the award.

Joe Cole makes Cole Palmer Player of the Year claim

With Chelsea doing so badly in the Premier League, it is probably going to be difficult for Palmer to win PFA Player of the Year or Premier League Player of the Season.

However, Chelsea legend Joe Cole thinks you can make an argument that he should win one of those accolades.

Discussing the subject and whether Palmer should go to the Euros with England, Cole told PA: “He has been sensational and there is an argument he could be Player of the Year — that’s how good he has been. You have to bring a player of that quality.

“The technicians are what are going to win us the tournament. They all have to go and they all have to have time on the pitch. Palmer is a top player. I have watched him play and he is a top, top player. Cole Palmer is an absolute genius.”

Is Joe Cole right about Cole Palmer?

Without a doubt. His numbers are good enough for him to win an individual award this season and earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

It should not be a debate whether Palmer goes or not. At this point, the Chelsea star should probably be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Whatever happens, this has been an incredible campaign for Palmer. At £45m, the England international is not even in Chelsea’s top 10 most expensive transfers of all time. Yet right now, he is looking way more valuable than the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who are included on that list.
