27-year-old that Son Heung-min was desperate for Tottenham to sign is now unhappy at current club - journalist

A year ago, Tottenham were in the market for new central defenders and eventually, the club brought in Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg – and the Dutch defender has has been sensational for Spurs.

Since then, Radu Dragusin has come in from Genoa. Spurs now have three top-class centre-backs on the books alongside Cristian Romero. But with a European campaign on the horizon, another is needed.

Ange Postecoglou has already made it clear he would like another central defender to choose from at Spurs. Romero is prone to suspension and has had injuries, while van de Ven has been injured as well.

His explosive pace means he gets the odd muscle injury and while another centre-back would mean two will sit out when Romero and van de Ven are fit – Postecoglou believes it is necessary to sign another.

Son Heung-min was desperate for Tottenham to sign Kim Min-jae

Last summer, before van de Ven’s arrival, South Korea star Kim Min-jae was being linked. A player that has constantly been touted with a move to Spurs, before he even joined Napoli. Son Heung-min is a fan.

Son obviously plays alongside the Bayern Munich defender for his country, which was recently managed by Jurgen Klinsmann at the Asia Cup. Son has been desperate for Spurs to sign Kim. Now, it may happen.

Indeed, a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter states that Kim is not happy with his position at Bayern – following his £43m move to the German giants from Napoli last summer.

On Wednesday, Eric Dier played ahead of him. Dier, who remains on loan from Spurs, is preferred by Thomas Tuchel in the heart of the defence. Jamie O’Hara said he was man of the match against Arsenal.

Bayern only got Kim on the cheap, he’d cost a lot more now

In his Napoli contract, Kim had a clause worth £43m and that allowed Bayern to sign a player easily worth the best part of double that fee – for little over £40m. Danny Murphy once said he was a £100m player.

With Kim struggling to start for Bayern, he will be available for a smaller fee than Murphy’s price tag – but you would expect him to be worth a lot more than the £43m fee Bayern spent to sign him from Napoli.

Chances are, offers of around £60m or £70m might make Bayern sit up and listen. But Spurs only need cover at the back, not a first-choice option. Son though, as captain, might have a word with Postecoglou.
