'In danger': Jamie Carragher makes claim about Arsenal involving Tottenham after Champions League exit

Arsenal tumbled out of the Champions League this week as they lost to Bayern Munich and Jamie Carragher has fired a word of warning.

The Gunners went to Munich being well in the tie at 2-2 but saw Joshua Kimmich score the only goal of the game in the second leg to put the tie to bed.

For Arsenal, it was a bitter blow in what has been a dismal week in an otherwise successful season.

The league title now looks harder than ever to win, and their short-comings in European football were painfully exposed by Munich, who showed their experience to see off Mikel Arteta’s side.

Of course, no league title will mean yet another season without a trophy for Arteta.

As of now, Arteta has won just a single FA Cup and a couple of Community Shields. And after spending north of £400m since being manager, the pressure is now on to deliver.

Indeed, writing in his latest column for The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher has suggested that Arsenal are in danger of becoming similar to their fiercest rivals, Tottenham.

Jamie Carragher makes Tottenham claim after Arsenal’s Champions League exit

Touching on Arsenal’s exit from Europe and their slip in the Premier League, Carragher has made a suggestion the Gunners could end up going down the same route as Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham.

“Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are in danger of becoming Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs; a side to be admired for nearly being great,” Carragher suggested.

Arsenal’s board will want results soon

The ‘project’ under Mikel Arteta has been a successful one in the main thus far.

However, there does come a point where trophies need to follow the big spend and Carragher makes a good point here.

Right now, Arteta probably has enough credit in the bank to stick around and be backed once more in the summer.

But come next season, if things are in the same boat, then surely there is pressure on Arteta.

The Spaniard, then, may well start to feel a bit of heat over the next six to twelve months if he does indeed finish this season trophyless.
