John McGinn reacts with four-word verdict to latest news coming out of Everton

Everton’s injury list looks as though it is going to reduce to some degree this weekend with a number of players returning from recent issues – but the same cannot be said for defender Nathan Patterson.

Sean Dyche said today that the likes of Dom Calvert-Lewin, Idrissa Gueye and Jarrad Branthwaite could all return for Dyche this weekend after suffering knocks. They face Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

Dyche’s men currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League table on 27 points, having been docked a total of eight points this term due to breaking rules in regards to Financial Fairplay and PSR guidelines.

Had Everton not been docked any, they would be sitting on 35 and pretty much safe. But instead, they are right in the mix. That is even with Burnley and Sheffield United looking likely as though they will go down.

Nathan Patterson suffers Everton injury blow, will need surgery

It makes Sunday’s game massive. Forest have also been docked four points and sit in 17th, a point behind Everton – having played a game more. The return of Calvert-Lewin, Gueye and Branthwaite really helps.

But, Everton will be without Scotland star Patterson. The 22-year-old has had more than his fair share of injuries since his move from Rangers and now he will be sidelined for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign.

Indeed, Patterson took to Instagram on Friday to confirm he will be out of action for the remaining six league games – as he undergoes surgery on his hamstring. He is in doubt for Scotland at Euro 2024.

It’s a real shame for Patterson, who Danny Murphy previously said had been “wonderful” at points this season. One of the players that Seamus Coleman – who is also injured – said is the future of Everton.

Scotland get their Euro 2024 campaign underway on June 14, when they take on Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany side. Fingers crossed for Patterson, he will be fit for that clash, but is a race against time for him.

McGinn put club rivalry aside to post a four-word message on Patterson’s Instagram. The Villa captain will be a crucial part of Scotland’s side this summer. He will be hoping Patterson can join him at Euro 2024.
