'Perfection': Coach left gobsmacked by the 'incredible' thing one Sheffield Wednesday star did v Blackburn

Gareth Ainsworth has heaped praise on the ‘incredible’ thing one Sheffield Wednesday star did yesterday.

Sheffield Wednesday made it four games unbeaten as they secured their second win of the month yesterday, beating Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

The Owls did the double over their hosts, having also beaten them 3-1 at Hillsborough before Christmas.

Josh Windass opened the scoring after only six minutes, with his first goal in three months after spending a large chunk of the campaign on the sidelines.

Blackburn quickly equalised, but Marvin Johnson and a freak own goal from Aynsley Pears secured the three points for Danny Rohl‘s side – taking them out of the relegation zone.

It was only Windass’ fourth goal of the season, but arguably his most important.

It certainly wasn’t bad on the eye either, with a beautifully taken lob hitting the back of the net, with the goalkeeper unable to do anything about it on a poor afternoon for him.

Josh Windass was ‘fantastic’

Former QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth was wowed by Windass and has admitted that he excited his goal ‘to perfection’.

Speaking onSky Sports, he said: “Don’t take anything away from this finish, this is incredible technique. It’s a side foot, but it’s a side foot with a bit of fade. If anyone wants to go away and try and replicate this in their garden… this is a really, really tough skill. He’s executed it to perfection. That is a really fantastic goal.

“Josh seems to have a habit of this as well, he only seems to score really important or worldie goals, and he put Sheffield Wednesday right on the front foot after six minutes.”

Does he deserve a new contract?

It’s an unforgettable goal for Josh Windass and one that proves how much he is still worth to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 30-year-old will see his contract expire this summer, and his injury problems had resulted in many fans urging the club to remove him from the wage books.

However, Windass quickly came back with a bang and has shown just how important he can be.

The midfielder netted the late winner in last season’s play-off final too, and continues to prove how little the pressure affects him.

He is the perfect man for big matches and that is exactly what they need in another two ‘cup finals’ over the next couple of weeks.

If Windass can chip in with another couple of goals and help keep the Owls up, then surely you can’t deny him a new contract if he wants to stay. A fully fit Windass is a very solid player.
