Teenage star will now cost Tottenham Hotspur £17m amid Destiny Udogie comparisons

Tottenham Hotspur have just seen Destiny Udogie go down with a season-ending injury, giving Ange Postecoglou a conundrum at left back.

Tottenham didn’t have a fixture this past weekend but Spurs fans were still somehow dealt some bad news on Saturday evening.

Destiny Udogie confirmed a season-ending injury which will also keep the left back out of Euro 2024.

The Italian has enjoyed a fine debut season in the Premier League but is now set for around three months out of action.

That leaves Ange Postecoglou to try and figure just who will play at left back against Arsenal on Sunday.

Ben Davies is likely to be the next man up but Udogie’s injury may leave Tottenham feeling that like-for-like competition is needed.

Tottenham may well look to add another left back in the summer and could even look to the Italian market again.

Tottenham want Patrick Dorgu

Bianconera News over in Italy report that Tottenham are interested in snapping up Lecce talent Patrick Dorgu.

It’s claimed that Juventus have already asked about a potential deal for Dorgu this summer, viewing him as their left back of the future.

AC Milan and Liverpool are also named alongside Tottenham in the race for Dorgu after showing huge promise in Italy.

Dorgu cost Lecce just €200,000 (£170,000) from Nordsjaelland in 2022 and is now valued at €20million (£17million) by Lecce.

The 19-year-old – a Danish Under-21 international – has bagged two goals in 27 Serie A games this season.

Dorgu has played as both a left wing back and a left back, showing his flexibility to play in different systems if needed.

Tottenham do have specific demands from the full backs under Postecoglou though and Dorgu would have to develop his game to play infield, just as Udogie did.

Dorgu compared to Destiny Udogie

There are clear parallels between Udogie and Dorgu.

Both are exciting young left backs, both are of Nigerian descent and both burst onto the scene in Serie A.

In fact, Luca Gotti recently made this exact comparison himself.

Gotti coached Udinese and is now Dorgu’s manager at Lecce, so he has had a hand in the development of both players.

Gotti suggested that there are several similarities between the two players, especially in terms of their technical abilities and their stamina up the flanks.

Tottenham may well see shades of Udogie in Dorgu and this injury could tempt Spurs into a deal for the Dane this summer.
