'Disgrace': Richard Keys thinks Howard Webb has done something which really let Nottingham Forest down

Richard Keys is a man who often has a strong opinion and now he’s weighed in the statement released by Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Reds went to town on the Premier League and the PGMOL after losing 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park.

Forest were robbed of three penalties and after the game, the Reds took aim at VAR official Stuart Attwell – who is apparently a Luton fan.

The statement made by Forest drew some criticism from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards – and it’s caused quite a stir.

Forest are still embroiled in serious relegation trouble and ultimately a win doesn’t look to be forthcoming at the moment.

Now, Keys has weighed into the weekend’s events and he’s discussed the incidents involving Forest.

Richard Keys delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest

Well, it would appear that Forest have actually found a pundit willing to fly the flag for them in the media.

Keys has taken aim at the PGMOL – with Howard Webb in particular in the firing line.

The pundit who now anchors for beIN Sports overseas thinks Forest have done the right thing with their actions.

Keys defended Forest on his own personal blog, saying: “I’ve nothing but sympathy for Forest fans today.

“I know we haven’t always seen eye to eye, but I’m with you now. What a disgrace that was at Goodison.

“Nobody at Forest was suggesting that Attwell would adversely affect the game.

“I don’t believe any ref ever sets out to make bad decisions, but there’s always the risk of a game turning out the way it did – with controversial decisions being made – and a stench to follow.

“Howard Webb was fully aware of the dangers. He should’ve stood Stuart Attwell down. Referees wanted to play a bigger role on match days. They wanted to be professionals. They wanted to be taken seriously. Well with those things comes accountability and scrutiny. I’m sorry, but that’s how it is now. We all live in that world.

“If the small number of us that keep asking questions and pointing out failings don’t keep up that work nothing will change. I’m with Forest on this one.”

Keys has finally hit the nail on the head

This is some statement from Keys and it’s a pretty spectacular defence of Forest over what they did after losing to Everton.

We don’t agree with everything that Forest posted after losing to the Toffees but ultimately, enough is enough.

The standards of refereeing in this country over the past 12 months – if not longer – have been nothing short of dreadful for a while.

Now, it’s time that pundits stood up for some of the teams and that’s exactly what Keys has done for Forest here.

Forest will clearly be heavily punished for their escapades on Sunday but hopefully, this is the wake-up call that Webb needs to address the standards of refereeing.
