'Very dangerous': Chris Sutton suggests why Mark Clattenburg will be annoyed with Nottingham Forest

Death, taxes and Chris Sutton disagreeing with something that Nottingham Forest Football Club have dared to do.

Here we are again. The Nottingham-born pundit, who claims he actually watched Forest as a kid, has had another pop at the club.

In fairness, this time, it comes when the Reds have actually made some seriously controversial waves.

After losing 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park, the Reds released a damning statement regarding Stuart Attwell who was on VAR.

The postdrew criticism from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards and other pundits have weighed in too.

Now, Sutton has taken aim at the club and he thinks they’ve done something that will leave Mark Clattenburg questioning his employment.

Chris Sutton delivers claim about Forest figure Mark Clattenburg

Well, it will come as no shock that Sutton thinks Forest only have an argument with one of their penalty appeals from the weekend.

He believes the third one was definitely a penalty but that the other two could have gone either way on any given day.

Sutton thinks that the Forest statement will likely have annoyed Clattenburg and has discussed the situation onThe Monday Night Club last night.

He said: “I thought the third one (penalty decision) was the really contentious one – I thought that was a penalty. The other two were very, very debatable.

“The first one there has to be sufficient contact and I don’t think there was, he planted his foot, you can argue that both ways.

“To bang on about three decisions like they were all clear-cut, they weren’t. There was one that was clear-cut and they are right to feel wronged. Most Premier League clubs could point to certain incidents this season and feel that they have been wronged.

“On Clattenburg, it was very dangerous territory that he was getting into and if you flip it back to his days as a referee, how would he feel if he was savaged like Stuart Attwell has been savaged?”

Sutton does make an interesting point but there feels like an agenda

When it comes to pundits, they all have an opinion – and just like us, they’re entitled to one.

We just can’t fathom why a Sutton, a bloke from Nottingham who has claimed in the past he supported Forest as a kid, constantly takes digs.

However, we do believe that the first post that Forest put out after their latest defeat must have left Clattenburg scratching his head a bit.

Okay, Forest implying that Attwell cheated is ridiculous. However, the message is merely trying to pile the pressure on the PGMOL to wake up and start doing things properly.

The Reds released another statement yesterday that was written far more professionally and today they’ve asked to hear the audio from the VAR.

The third penalty that Forest were denied was just ridiculous, with Taylor not being sent to the screen despite pointing to the ball in real-time and replays showing that Ashley Young was nowhere near the ball.

Forest are right to question the standards of the match officials, however, and hopefully, this can be the game that prompts the powers that be to act.
