Sheffield Wednesday potentially handed Danny Rohl boost amid Sunderland manager search - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday may well have been handed a huge boost where Danny Rohl is regarded.

Sheffield Wednesday are finally out of the bottom three, and it’s all down to Rohl.

Whilst the players deserve a huge amount of credit too, Sheffield Wednesday would’ve been relegated long ago if it wasn’t for Rohl and his magic.

The job is far from done, though.

The Owls have two huge games left with West Brom visiting Hillsborough this weekend, then finishing the season away at Sunderland at the start of next month.

Sheffield Wednesday fans thought it inevitable that their manger would garner interest ahead of the summer.

There’s been reports of multiple Championship teams being interested in Rohl ahead of the summer, but Sunderland are the ones who’ve been named.

It’s claimed that Sunderland have shortlisted Rohl ahead of the summer, with the Black Cats set for another managerial appointment in the pre-season.

They have an interim coach right now, and they’re certainly struggling, which could yet play into Sheffield Wednesday’s favour come the final day of the season.

Little has changed in the last few weeks.

But it now seems like Rohl might not be a leading contender for the Sunderland job, with the Black Cats being strongly linked with Will Still once again.

Still has been linked with Sunderland throughout this season.

He’s said to be their ‘ideal’ managerial hire this summer, and recent reports coming out of Europe say that Sunderland are still very much interested in appointing the 31-year-old this summer.

Rohl’s name hasn’t been mentioned alongside Sunderland that much recently, and if Sheffield Wednesday beat the drop, Rohl surely stays on.

Dejphon Chansiri knows what he needs to do at Sheffield Wednesday

If Wednesday stay up, Dejphon Chansiri will owe a huge thanks to Rohl.

And if Rohl stays, which seems likely in the event of Championship survival, then Rohl simply has to back Rohl.

There’s no other way about it; Chansiri has to show Rohl that he has ambitions and resources, because if he doesn’t then Rohl could easily land another job elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday have a really valuable asset in Rohl and now the club has to build around him and what he wants, and do everything they can to keep him content.

With Sunderland looking like they’re still keen on hiring Still over anybody else this summer, it’s starting to looking like Sheffield Wednesday have a good chance of keeping Rohl.

The Owls return to action at home to West Brom on Saturday afternoon, with kick off at 4pm.
