Report: Crystal Palace now want 27-year-old who's a "killer in the box" for free this summer

Crystal Palace are now looking to pickup a bargain of a striker this summer with a free signing, according to reports.

For Oliver Glasner, the need to sign a new starting striker will have diminished since he arrived at the club.

January saw Crystal Palace linked with big money moves to the likes of Eddie Nketiah, moves which would take up a large part of the budget.

But the emergence of Jean-Philippe Mateta into a regular goalscorer will have likely shifted focus onto other positions as he’s proving he can lead the line.

This should mean cheaper options are being looked at to replace Odsonne Edouard this summer.

Dougie Freedman already has his eyes on one option, if reports are to be believed.

Crystal Palace targeting Kelechi Iheanacho for free

According to a report by talkSPORT, Palace have Kelechi Iheanacho on the radar ahead of the upcoming summer window.

The 27-year-old Nigerian will be available for free this summer which would be a bargain.

This interest sees Iheanacho join his Nigeria and Leicester teammate Wilfred Ndidi on Palace’s list for this summer, with the report also mentioning that he’s being eyed up.

Potentially managing to secure both Iheanacho and Ndidi for free would be incredible business by Freedman, and significant bolster the squad which will likely be depleted by contracts expiring.

This season in the Championship, Iheanacho has struggled with just five goals and an assist in 22 appearances.

He added a goal and an assist in two EFL Cup games too, but ultimately he is capable of far better and Glasner will fancy his chances of getting that out of him.

Iheanacho was once lauded by Pep Guardiola

As we all know well, Iheancho came through the ranks at Manchester City before being sold to Leicester.

But before he left, he had endeared himself to Pep Guardiola, with the Spanish manager praising him as being a “killer in the box” and also being “strong and fast”.

These two qualities will fit in well at Selhurst Park, with Mateta possessing these as well.

Having this duo up top wouldnt be a bad pair at all for Glasner to choose from, as for free Iheanacho is absolutely with it.
