Tottenham now eyeing summer swoop for ‘magnificent’ defender from Championship side Hull City

Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing a potential move for a centre-back who is currently playing in the Championship for Hull City.

The summer transfer window is going to see Tottenham look to add at centre-back despite bringing in Radu Dragusin over the January transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has already spoken about the club’s desire to add in that department after seeing Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier moved on already.

Over the coming months, Spurs will surely be looking to bring in some quality options to bolster their squad ahead of an expected season in Europe.

Tottenham may now struggle to qualify for the Champions League, but they still hold a 10 point advantage over sixth-placed Newcastle United.

And it seems they could, once again, look to the second tier to find the centre-back to come in and fill the spot of fourth choice.

Tottenham now eyeing swoop for 23-year-old centre-back this summer

Already this season, Tottenham have brought three new centre-backs through the doors at Hotspur Way.

Micky van de Ven has proven an instant hit at the back with the Dutchman forming a sensational partnership with Cristian Romero.

The 23-year-old has already been clocked as the Premier League’s quickest ever player but has shown some weakness with his hamstring injuries.

And then there is Dragusin who has struggled to break into the starting XI and youngster Ashley Phillips who is enjoying a loan spell away in the Championship with Plymouth Argyle.

Despite already having one young centre-back from the Championship, i news are now reporting Spurs to have an interest in the Hull City defender Jacob Greaves.

Tottenham are not the only side to have been credited with an interest from the Premier League though with the likes of Everton and Brentford also said to be keen.

Of course, the other two sides both find themselves down at the wrong end of the table and Spurs could offer a much more attractive offer.

However, the other two are also more likely to be able to guarantee more regular first team football.

Intriguing stats that show Jacob Greaves could be a great option for Spurs

One of the interesting factors to consider ahead of the summer is how Phillip’s development at Spurs may hindered with the addition of a new centre-back.

The Englishman has spent the second half of the campaign back in the Championship after signing in the summer from Blackburn Rovers.

And he is clearly impressing down on the south coast with Plymouth having become a real mainstay in the side.

But the “absolutely magnificent” Greaves, according to Liam Rosenior, could potentially offer Spurs with a more reliable option for the present with the 18-year-old Phillips seen as a long-term project.

Here is a summary of the two have compared this season.

Although Phillips may take it on some of the defensive stats – playing in a more challenged backline – it is apparent Greaves has a lot of ball-playing aspects to his game which would impress.
