'Who knows': Journalists suggests Sheffield Wednesday loanee could still be at Hillsborough next season

A journalist has suggested there is still the possibility of Sheffield Wednesday resigning one of their loan stars this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday have heavily relied on loan deals and free transfers in recent years, with their only hard cash going on Djeidi Gassama, Pol Valentin and Bambo Diaby since they were promoted.

They certainly made use of the loan market, snapping up nine players on deals until the end of the season.

The Owls have had a mixed bag of results though, with both John Buckley and Devis Vasquez ending their stays early in January.

Meanwhile, the likes of Jeff Hendrick, Ashley Fletcher and Momo Diaby have struggled to earn a regular place in the team, with the former two managing only 25 minutes of action between them in the last three months.

They seemed to have much more success with their arrivals in January though, with Ian Poveda, Ike Ugbo and James Beadle all making a positive impact.

Poveda has struggled with injury during his time at Hillsborough but has been a real blessing when fit. Ugbo has scored six vital goals since joining the club, while Beadle has kept six clean sheets.

Sheffield Wednesday could try to sign James Beadle again

The two attackers have been mentioned aspotential permanent targets if Wednesday can stay up, but it is the goalkeeper that could be set for a second loan now.

Sheffield Star journalist Alex Miller said: “On loan from Premier League Brighton, he’s been in excellent form and there’s little doubt the Seagulls see plenty in him. Could we see him back at S6 next season perhaps? Who knows?”

Could Brighton agree to another loan exit?

Sheffield Wednesday already look likely tooffload Cameron Dawson this summer, and if James Beadle was to return to Brighton then that would leave them with 18-year-old Pierce Charles.

The Owls will be desperate to bring in some reinforcements in between the sticks, and going back in for a player who has already proven himself in recent months is not a bad shout.

The‘superb‘ 19-year-old still has Bart Verbruggen and Jason Steele ahead of him in the pecking order on the south coast, while the Seagulls also have two other goalkeepers in Kjell Scherpen and Carl Rushworth out on loan.

If Brighton decide to send Beadle out again this summer, then Wednesday should be at the front of that queue for his signature.

Of course, the club would need another goalkeeper to take Dawson’s spot, but Beadle could make a real positive impact with a whole pre-season under his belt at Middlewoad Road.
