Oliver Glasner now shares what Mateta has been privately texting Crystal Palace staff lately

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been a revelation ever since the arrival of Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace, now light’s been shed on his form.

Crystal Palace are in the midst of a three-game winning run and confidence is higher than it’s been for years at Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner has turned the club around in less than 10 games and the biggest benefactor has been the fantastic Frenchman, Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta has been arguably the standout player for Palace since Glasner arrived with eight goals in nine games so far, with his teammates growing in confidence about his abilities.

Such a drastic improvement under Glasner however isn’t limited to goals but rather his entire game has evolved. Now the boss has opened up on something Mateta has been doing to improve.

Speaking during his press conference for Saturday’s game against Fulham, Glasner revealed what Mateta has been texting club staff recently.

As quoted by journalist Andrew McSteen, Mateta has been showing coaches how keen he is to impress lately.

Glasner praised the “intrinsic motivation” of his striker. He then explained, “he is messaging staff members saying ‘I would like to do this before training’…”

The Austrian manager then finally explained that because of his work rate, Mateta is reaping the rewards.

“If you invest a lot in something you get the reward and JP is getting the reward.”

Clearly whatever Mateta is doing is working

Since joining Palace, Mateta hadn’t exactly endeared himself to fans with just eight Premier League goals in his first three seasons across 58 performances.

His drastic improvements can be seen as he’s now got the same amount in nine games since Glasner arrived at the club, breaking records in the process.

From a player destined to depart, to now an icon at the club with the entire stadium singing Venga Boys every time he scores.

It’s been an incredible end to the season for the 26-year-old and he’s definitely now secured himself a spot in the starting line-up next season.
