Tottenham now leading the race to sign ‘skillful’ midfielder from West Ham this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the race to sign a midfielder from West Ham United in the summer.

Ange Postecoglou‘s men look set to complete their first season under the Australian with qualification for some form of European football.

The north London side could even land themselves a spot in the Champions League for next season, but that could well require a near perfect final six games.

However, Tottenham have shown some serious progression on the dismal efforts of last season under the tenure of Antonio Conte.

Daniel Levy has sanctioned a lot of change over the last 12 months with a number of new players coming in after Spurs sold Harry Kane in the summer.

And the upcoming summer transfer window will provide the Lilywhites with an opportunity to add even more quality as Postecoglou adds some fine tuning to his squad.

It now seems like Tottenham could be set to sign a midfielder from one of their London rivals, West Ham, over the coming months.

Tottenham front of the queue to sign midfielder from West Ham this summer

Midfield is clearly an area which Tottenham are looking to bolster over the coming months with The Spurs News aware of multiple targets.

Spurs are believed to be eyeing up midfield duo Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta after multiple successful signings from Serie A.

But the form of players like Yves Bissouma has made it apparent that there is still work to be done in the midfield department over the coming months.

Even James Maddison has struggled since he has returned from injury with the England international unable to rediscover his early season form.

And now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are leading the race to sign the West Ham midfielder Daniel Rigge.

The Italian transfer insider has revealed there are four clubs who are interested in making a move for the 18-year-old.

But after an impressive season for the Hammers, Rigge is happy at West Ham despite receiving heavy interest from elsewhere.

However, Romano claims clubs are now looking to test the waters for the 2006-born midfielder over the coming weeks.

Who is Daniel Rigge of West Ham?

Rigge may not quite be the big-money signing which Tottenham fans will have been hoping to hear about ahead of the summer.

But this is clearly a very talented youngster who could have a long-term effect on the first team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Here is a summary of how the 18-year-old has performed this season.

Statistics via Transfermarkt.

West Ham academy manager Kenny Brown has had some high praise to lavish on the youngster after he signed his first professional deal last year.

“Dan is a very talented and skilful footballer, and everyone is excited and eager to help him continue his development at the Academy of Football!” he told the club’s website.

It is expected Lucas Bergvall will arrive in the summer and could have an immediate spot in the first team under Postecoglou.

However, having played the majority of the season in the U18s Premier League, it would be a longer path for Rigge to break into Postecoglou’s side.

And with the likes of Jamie Donley impressing in Wayne Burnett’s U21s side, this would surely be a long-term signing.
