‘You can see’: Ian Wright tells Crystal Palace to ‘be excited’ about £22m ‘Rolls-Royce’ after Fulham draw

Crystal Palace extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to four games as the Eagles earned a late point against Fulham, seeing Ian Wright take the time to heap praise on one star.

It was a result that epitomised the belief running through Oliver Glasner’s squad at the moment, as Crystal Palace came from a goal behind to earn a hard-fought point at Craven Cottage against Fulham.

The Eagles were patient throughout the contest, matching the hosts for threat and intensity, building up to their sensational equaliser courtesy of Jeffrey Schlupp in the 87th minute.

While it was the 31-year-old who left Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson wowed, Ian Wright was full of praise for another one of Glasner’s stars involved in the goal.

Ian Wright dubbed Adam Wharton a ‘Rolls-Royce’ after his display v Fulham

It was 20-year-old Adam Wharton who played a positive forward-thinking pass into Schlupp to score the leveller, with his overall performance capturing the attention of many once more.

When analysing Palace’s draw on BBC Match of the Day, Wright waxed lyrical about the January arrival, dubbing him a ‘Rolls-Royce’ for one key element of his game.

“I want to give him some flowers he’s been brilliant. He’s so calm, so cool. You can see the excitement at Palace, and they should be excited with him, Eze, Olise, Mateta, who’s really kicked on.

“He’s just got this real calm, Rolls-Royce kind of calmness to him. His passing, I like the fact that he and Will Hughes are in there as well.”

The former Palace forward said what everyone else was thinking with his assessment of Wharton, who seems to be growing in confidence and maturity by the week in Glasner’s system.

Adam Wharton is proving why Crystal Palace were so eager to sign him

While the fixture didn’t end in victory, it was another afternoon to be celebrated for the Eagles, who picked up their 10th point from a possible 12 in their previous four Premier League games.

A lot of the reason for Palace’s recent form is the assured presence of Wharton in midfield, who has become an integral part of the squad since his £22m arrival at the start of the year.

The 20-year-old is showing a magnificent creative edge to his game as well as being able to pair that with his combative strengths, partnering expertly with Hughes in recent weeks.

It’s certainly the start of something special between Wharton and Palace, who are growing encouragingly beside each other week after week.
