How Dougie Freedman now feels about staying at Crystal Palace amid fresh interest from Newcastle - journalist

Crystal Palace Sporting Director Dougie Freedman has been subject to a host of speculation, with an insight into what the 49-year-old thinks about staying in South London now provided.

Crystal Palace will be braced for a busy summer in the transfer window, with a host of Oliver Glasner’s talent suspected to be of great interest to other clubs.

It’s no secret that players such as Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi have a list of admirers both past and present, with the Eagles’ goal now to either retain their top players or secure a fair price for those accumulating interest.

It was only last week that BBC pundit Danny Murphy shared his view that Eze could leave in the summer however, it’s not only the influential figures on the pitch that the Eagles should be wary of exiting at the end of the season.

Keeping Dougie Freedman would be crucial for Crystal Palace

Talk of departures will be dominated by the futures of Olise and Eze however, losing Freedman could be just as detrimental to the club.

Since taking on the role, Freedman has presented Steve Parish with an overwhelming amount of top-calibre talent, including the two in-demand Palace stars, Guehi and most recently, Adam Wharton.

Without signing such players, it would be difficult to imagine where the Eagles would be, with the names shining both on the pitch and presenting the club with the chance of a hefty profit through a future sale.

The news that Freedman isn’t in a rush to leave Selhurst Park is huge news and an update that will be taken well by Palace fans, who adore the remarkable work and commitment of the 49-year-old in his role.

It’s no surprise that the Scotsman is a figure thought highly of in the Premier League, with his work at Crystal Palace exemplary, all the more reason for Glasner and Parish to want to keep him in South London for the future.

While the job prospects at the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United could be considered tempting, it’s an exciting time for Palace, who are looking to break away from recent mediocrity with the help of Glasner.
