'Really intense': Bannan highlights just how Rohl has transformed Sheffield Wednesday so quickly

Barry Bannan has highlighted exactly what Danny Rohl has done to transform Sheffield Wednesday.

It was only seven months ago that Sheffield Wednesday already looked resigned to relegation, having failed to win their opening eleven games before Danny Rohl was appointed.

The German took only a few weeks to pick up his first victory, but it was still a long wait before the team started to gain momentum and claim some vital points.

The Owls now have 14 wins in 34 matches under Rohl, though it wasn’t until their recent win over Blackburn Rovers that they managed to climb out of the relegation zone for the first time since the opening day.

A further win against West Brom took them three points above the bottom three, and now it is in their hands as to whether they stay up as they visit Sunderland this weekend.

It has been a huge improvement from Wednesday from the same team sitting seven points adrift at the bottom of the table in October, and even ten points from safety a month later.

Rohl has completely transformed things at Hillsborough and has received huge praise for it, with Barry Bannan one man who has made his appreciation for the 35-year-old very clear.

Danny Rohl deserves so much ‘credit’

Speaking on BBC Football Daily 72+ podcast, the midfielder said: “It’s really the same group that started the season so poorly that he’s inherited, and I don’t know what the points he’s picked up since coming in, but I think we would be around about seventh or eighth in the league, which speaks volumes from a team that couldn’t win a game in 16/17 games or whatever it was.

“But it’s just been hard work, it’s really intense in training every day. He’s working really word and is really intense and wants to get his points across quickly. So the boys have bought into it and they have hit the ground running.

“He’s a top young manager, he has a great CV as an assistant manager, but to come in and do the job that he’s done in his first job as a manager has been brilliant and I can’t give him enough credit. As much as the players can take credit, a lot of it’s down to the manager and how he’s turned things around for us.”

Sheffield Wednesday would be down by now if it wasn’t for Rohl

It was only last month that Sheffield Wednesday looked set for an immediate return to the League One, despite all of their hard work.

But their form in recent matches has been excellent and they are definitely deserving of a place in the second tier next term.

While you have to congratulate the players for their performances, they are the same team that struggled at the start of the season, but the only difference is Danny Rohl telling them what to do.

He has instilled so much belief and confidence into this team, and if they had another month of the campaign left then they would probably edge towards a mid-table finish.

Rohl deserves all the praise in the world for his impact, and even though fans clearly love him, I think they would realise he is even more important than they think if he left this summer.
