Pedestrian killed in crash near shopping mall in Ocean County

A pedestrian was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle Wednesday night on Route 166 in Ocean County, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 8:25 p.m . in the area of Stella Plaza shopping mall in Toms River, according to police. Police closed the highway for a time during the investigation between Lomell Lane and Mapletree Road.

New Jersey State Police on Thursday confirmed the crash was fatal, but did not immediately provide additional details.

Members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the county sheriff’s CSI team, and Toms River police are investigating.
