What Reece James did to every Chelsea player at full-time of their win over Tottenham – journalist

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella says that the delight that the Chelsea players felt last night spread beyond the 11 who were on the pitch.

The Blues picked up a big 2-0 win over arch-rivals Tottenham last night, keeping their hopes alive for a place in Europe next season via the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino will be more than aware that the pressure is on him to deliver results that see them finish in the top seven this season, with his job by no means secure.

It was even reported today that they are still considering a new manager off the back of that result, with Hansi Flick being mentioned as a strong candidate.

Nevertheless, on the pitch at Stamford Bridge it looked as if there was complete backing of the boss, no more so than from Reece James.

The club captain has not been fit for a number of months now, and it looks as if it is going to be a stretch to see him feature again this season.

Reece James congratulated every Chelsea player

However, his involvement has not been higher before, with Kinsella claiming on Twitter that he made sure to congratulate every single player after the game.

He said: “Reece James is down pitch-side congratulation every player, Poch and his staff.”

The fact that the England international has not been present for most of this season has left some thinking that he should not have been given the armband at the start of this season.

John Terry wants Conor Gallagher as Chelsea captain

As well as experienced figures such as Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling, some including club legend John Terry have called for Conor Gallagher to be handed the armband.

Yesterday’s team talk proved that there are more leaders that some may have not expected either, with goalscorer Chalobah stepping up and rousing the troops ahead of the big London derby last night.
