'People want us to...': Moyes fires obvious dig at West Ham fans after Chelsea embarrassment

West Ham United manager David Moyes seemingly took a back-handed dig at the Hammers fans after the Chelsea defeat this afternoon.

David Moyes will not be West Ham manager beyond the end of the season in all likelihood, especially after today’s hammering by Chelsea, with the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Ruben Amorim in the mix to replace him.

The Scot has performed woefully in his role as Hammers boss in 2024. We’ve won just three Premier League games since the turn of the year, and have been on the wrong end of some absolute batterings.

West Ham have lost 6-0 to Arsenal, 5-0 to Fulham, 5-2 to Crystal Palace and now 5-0 to Chelsea over the past 10 weeks – utterly pathetic.

The defending has been shambolic at times and there are absolutely no discernible patterns of play on display.

Moyes’s time is clearly done at the London Stadium, but it seems as though he’s going to go out swinging…

The Scot is someone who never takes responsibility for failure.

At the same time, he’s more than happy to remind everyone about ‘his’ successes at West Ham.

After the embarrassing 5-0 defeat today, Moyes responded to reporters when asked about his side’s awful defensive record this season, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“People want us to play with our best players, which we’re trying to do, but it’s exposing other areas of the pitch.”

I’m so tired of Moyes passively aggressively saying things like this after heavy defeats this season.

He’s the manager of this football club – one who prides himself on defensive solidarity by the way – and it’s his responsibility to set his team up to be competitive.

Those comments above are clearly directed at the fans who have asked for more of an attacking setup all season.

The thing is, the fact that Moyes has been setting up with four attacking players over the past month or so isn’t an excuse for the amount of goals we have shipped.

Good sides defend together as a team. Our organisation and tactical nouse is fundamentally wrong in so many ways. The players have clearly checked out this season, and so has the manager.

We’ve conceded 70 goals in the Premier League this season – 70! Only the bottom three teams have conceded more.

There was no need for Moyes to take a swipe at the West Ham fans after the embarrassing performance from him and his players against Chelsea today though.

It’s not good enough, and I’ll be glad when he’s gone now.
