Daniel Sturridge reveals what he told Harvey Elliott to do more before Liverpool vs Tottenham

Daniel Sturridge has opened up about what he told Harvey Elliott to do more often before Liverpool’s game against Tottenham.

The Reds were back in their groove on Sunday afternoon, securing a comfortable victory over Tottenham, and getting back to winning ways.

For much of the last few weeks, it seemed like we were never going to see Jurgen Klopp’s team back doing what his teams do best, dominating the opposition and winning games comfortably.

But against Tottenham, they were back. This was Liverpool at its best under Jurgen Klopp, and it was a really enjoyable watch.

The Reds controlled the game and completely outplayed Tottenham from start to finish.

Daniel Sturridge on what he told Harvey Elliott before the game

Harvey Elliott was probably one of the best players on the pitch for Liverpool. The 21-year-old not only registered an assist, but he also scored a sublime goal which ultimately saw the Reds take a four goal lead.

In general, Elliott also created plenty of chances and caused Tottenham a lot of problems in the game.

This was another outstanding performance from him and yet more proof that he is one of the most exciting players in the Liverpool squad.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Daniel Sturridge revealed that he actually gave a piece of advice to Elliott a few weeks before the game.

“I had a chat with Harvey Elliott a few weeks ago and I told him to shoot more,” Sturridge said.

“For me has the ability to do it and I think as a younger player you might shy away from it with Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and the pressure to feed them.”

Elliott’s numbers against Tottenham

It seems like Elliott definitely heeded Sturridge’s advice. His goal against Tottenham means he now has 13 goal contributions this season.

That’s the joint most alongside Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool’s midfielders.

Overall, Elliott’s performance was really good. He created the most chances and won the most recoveries while he was on the pitch according to Anfield Index.
