Champions League-winning manager is interested in replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea – journalist

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated that there is one particular managerial candidate open to becoming the next Chelsea manager.

Pressure is still on Mauricio Pochettino in his role at the club despite the upturn of form in recent weeks in the Premier League.

The Blues currently occupy one of the European places for next season, with consecutive big wins over West Ham and Tottenham helping solidify that place.

However, it has been reported that this may well not be enough, with a top six place and Europa League football actually being the demands of the owners.

This leaves room to imagine that there still could be a change at the helm this summer, and if so Thomas Tuchel is the name at the top of many Chelsea fans’ list.

The German won the Champions League with the Blues three years ago, and has a great chance to do so again with Bayern Munich before the end of his time there.

Thomas Tuchel interested in taking over at Chelsea

However, Plettenberg has now taken to Twitter to state that Tuchel is actually interested in the role if it was to become available.

He said: “News Tuchel | He was open to continue at FC Bayern. There were internal discussions. But the door is now closed for the time being! Understand there are two appealing destinations for him: ManUtd or a return to Chelsea!

“There is loose contact with United. But for now he is currently fully focused on Bayern and wants to win the Champions League for the team and the fans.”

Pochettino should be kept

There would certainly need to be some relationships repaired between Tuchel and owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali before he would even be considered for the role again.

However, the argument to keep Pochettino in his role at manager seems to be getting stronger by the week, with him finally seeming to get the best out of a number of first team stars.

One of those has notably been Moises Caicedo, who is seeming to show exactly why the club pushed so hard and spent so much money on him last summer.
