'My main goal': 20-year-old boldly insists he wants to play for West Ham first-team next season

So, a supremely talented young player has insisted that he wants to play for the West Ham United first-team next season.

West Ham are on the cusp of an exciting new era, with Julen Lopetegui all set to replace David Moyes, after the club offered the Spaniard a two-year deal.

The Hammers have endured an awful 2024, with just three Premier League wins to our name.

However, the future is very bright for us in my opinion, with plenty of top-class players currently at the club.

The main job for Lopetegui will be to bring down the average age of our squad, and the 57-year-old will surely be looking for talented young players to bring into the club.

Let’s not forget the sheer amount of talent that we have filling out the under-18 and under-21 squads as well!

We have four or five very special young players at the London Stadium right now.

Unfortunately for them, they never got a proper chance with Moyes at the helm.

That could all be about to change though, with a fresh start under Julen Lopetegui on the horizon.

Freddie Potts is one of those players, and he has told the Evening Standard how he’s determined to make waves with the first-team next season:

“My main goal is to make my stamp in the first-team at West Ham. I want to be here for the next year.”

Potts has enjoyed a fantastic loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers this season, and has been compared to Eberechi Eze.

The 20-year-old is way more defensive minded than Eze, but his technical ability is clearly right up there with the very best.

Freddie Potts is exactly the kind of player we need at West Ham next season, and he should be able to provide proper competition and cover for Edson Alvarez.

It remains to be see whether or not Lopetegui will be prepared to give the young midfielder a fair chance though.
